Comparing CGM Services
It’s important to understand that these companies are NOT manufacturing CGMs. Only two companies are making the CGMs you have access to: Dexcom and Abbott (FreeStyle Libre). Each of the CGM service providers we are discussing provides some or all of the following services:
On-staff prescriber so they can sell you a CGM (by-passing the need for an Rx from your doc)
An app which will present your glucose data on your smartphone
On-demand education about nutrition and blood sugar
1:1 professional support
Key Factors to Consider: Choosing the Right Continuous Glucose Monitor Service for You
The service you choose depends on your own needs and budget. Here are a few things to consider.
Some are less expensive but have fewer services.
The least expensive ones are Theia Health and Veri.
Some have a great app and community support. This is nice for a tech-savvy person who doesn’t want or need 1:1 support.
Signos, Levels, and Nutrisense all have a lot of this AI support.
Some can’t support you if you have a diagnosis of diabetes.
You will need to check. I’m certain that Hack Your Blood Sugar and Signos are both open to people with type 2 diabetes. I’m not sure about Levels and Nutrisense. For Veri and Theia, you might need to be using them with a licensed practitioner if you have type 2 diabetes.
Some use Dexcom, some use Libre, and some allow you to choose. You might have a preference.
Signos uses Dexcom.
Nutrisense, Theia, and Veri use FreeStyle Libre.
Levels and Hack Your Blood Sugar will support both types of CGM.
Some come with considerable support from a licensed nutrition professional, which is best if you have more advanced health concerns or if you prefer working with an actual human over an app.
Hack Your Blood Sugar provides 1:1 or group support with a licensed nutrition professional. Nutrisense comes with a month of in-app nutrition support. Signos also has some in-app nutrition support. Theia, and Veri can be used by your healthcare provider to monitor your progress.
General Restrictions:
Most of the service providers will have restrictions placed on them regarding who they can support. Some are up-front about their restrictions, and some have their restrictions on the back end, which will become clear once you apply. Most of them will restrict users of insulin therapy, people who are pregnant, people receiving cancer therapy, and some will not serve people with type 2 diabetes.
All (except for Hack Your Blood Sugar) require a compatible smartphone with NFC or Bluetooth capabilities.
There are 3 general categories of CGM Service Providers
The full-service apps with all the bells and whistles:
I’d put Nutrisense, Signos, and Levels into this category.
The budget apps for DIY or to get practitioner dashboards:
Theia Health and Veri tend to be less expensive options with fewer bells and whistles.
Work directly with a licensed nutrition professional:
Hack Your Blood Sugar is the only service provider providing this direct professional support. Users choose the level of support they want and can add more as needed. They also do NOT sell you a CGM. They help you get a prescription from your doctor so you may obtain it through your pharmacy, which saves you money in the long run. This option is great if you want a relationship with a professional, not just an app.
4-week group program $367: In these 15-person groups, you have access to on-demand nutrition education along with 2 weekly Zoom group calls to go over your data with Karen and ask questions. Participants have unlimited group messaging access with Karen for the entire time and guidance on interpreting data and improving glucose control. These run every other month, so we recommend people get on the waiting list (and get access to early registration discounts)
1:1 Program $515: This gives the participant 4 weekly 1:1 Zoom calls with Karen to assist with set-up, discuss their CGM data, and discuss other related health concerns. More support can be added on as needed. They also receive the same on-demand nutrition education and support obtaining their CGM from their pharmacy with help getting a prescription from their doctor. This is best for the person who just wants to talk to a human or has some other health issues that will need to be factored into the equation. Or someone who’s just not a group person.
DIY $127: This is an option for users who want the basics, with the option to book appointments with Karen as needed. Users get access to on-demand nutrition and blood sugar education and instructions on how to request a prescription from their doctor.
A Breakdown of Each CGM Service

Nutrisense
This popular app supports FreeStyle Libre and provides a month of in-app dietitian support.

3 months: $299/mo: 3 mo commitment, 2 sensors/month, nutritionist support for 1 month

12 mo $225/mo
Nutrisense states the following people are ineligible for their program: Currently undergoing cancer treatment, currently undergoing insulin therapy, diagnosed with an active eating disorder, pregnant or wish to become pregnant in the next few months, undergoing fertility treatments, under the age of 18, unable to provide a shipping address within the United States, not in possession of a smartphone with NFC or Bluetooth capabilities.
Note: These exclusions may also be in place with some of the other companies (except for CGM for Everyone), but they are not explicit about these exclusions on their websites.
Theia
This is an app that, like Veri, can be used by the consumer, or they have a practitioner dashboard.
$300/1 mo including sensors
$599/3 months
Or, you can BYO sensors and pay $149/year for use of their app.
Hack Your Blood Sugar
This one is unique because it teaches participants how to use the free software provided by Dexcom and FreeStyle Libre and helps clients obtain a prescription for their doctor to access CGMs directly from the pharmacy. While it’s a little more legwork, it saves the user money in the long run and helps loop in the rest of the healthcare team, if desired. These programs are designed to give intensive support and are more like a traditional relationship with a nutrition professional.
DIY $127: How to get a CGM, instructions for installation and use, and nutrition curriculum
4-week Group Program: $367 Weekly Zoom calls with a licensed health care provider in a small group and 4+ weeks of chat support
4-week 1:1 Program: $515 includes weekly 1:1 Zoom calls with a licensed healthcare provider to walk you through the program and support you.
Restrictions: Not appropriate for type 1 diabetes. Karen can support people with other health considerations and people without compatible smartphones. Why can Hack Your Blood Sugar support people while others can’t? Because Karen is a licensed healthcare professional who works with these same clients daily. So CGM support is just one of the many tools she has to support people undergoing cancer therapy, using insulin, pregnant or trying to achieve pregnancy, experiencing other complex medical conditions, etc. She can also work 1:1 with you to coordinate care with your other providers when needed.
CGM Services with Advanced Practitioner Dashboards
If you are a practitioner, such as a dietitian, nutritionist, health coach, nurse, or other, this is for you. A practitioner dashboard provides a separate login for you to monitor your clients who register with you.
Theia Health, Veri, and Signos all have dashboards for healthcare providers. You may purchase access for your individual clients and monitor their progress. These companies take care of drop-shipping the CGM to your client and manage set-up and tech support so you can jump in and do what you do best.
Theia is free to sign up for as a provider, then you pay per client.
Signos sells you packages of 5 seats, and you re-sell them to your clients.
Veri is free to sign up for as a provider, then you pay per client.
You still need to know how to interpret data and coach your clients through the process! If you want support with this, we offer a ton of support for you.
