Using Dexcom Clarity with Stelo CGM

The over-the-counter Dexcom Stelo continuous glucose monitor (CGM) is HERE. It’s easy to get and easy to set up, but there are a few problems.

  • You can’t see the data from your old sensors.👀

  • You can’t see everything you’ve logged in the app.

  • You can’t see numbers below 70mg/dl (3.9mmol/L)

  • You can’t share your data with a provider.👩‍⚕️

  • You can’t create handy reports.📊

EXCEPT YOU CAN!! Enter Dexcom Clarity!

Does the Dexcom Clarity app work with Stelo?

Yes! Clarity works with the Stelo and all other Dexcom products. And it’s FREE! 💸

What does Dexcom Clarity do?

What doesn’t it do? Think of Clarity as the back end to the Dexcom Stelo. All Dexcom CGMs use it. With Clarity you can:

  • View all your historical data

  • Create handy reports📈

  • See your logged data

  • Share your data with providers

  • See your numbers below 70 mg/dl (3.9 mmol/L)

If you’ve used LibreView for your FreeStyle Libre CGM in the past, this is Dexcom’s version. But IMO, Clarity is soooo much slicker. It will make sense to you and I think you’ll love it.

This 20-minute video gives you a nice tour of the Clarity desktop app and everything you can do with it.👇👇

How do I connect my Stelo with Clarity?

There are a few steps to this. It’s as simple as downloading the Clarity app onto your phone and going from there. But I can tell you from experience that there are a lot of ways to get tripped up. Ask me how I know!! Please watch the free video above for a complete demonstration of how to connect your Stelo with Clarity. Tech can be frustrating, but making CGM tech is my ❤️ Language.

How can I share my Stelo CGM data with others?

This is a very simple feature inside your Clarity app. Just go to “Manage Sharing” and enter the clinic code of the provider you want to share data with. If you want more of a walk-through, I cover it in the aformentioned free 20-minute VIDEO about Using Clarity with Dexcom Stelo. It walks you through it step-by-step.

I’m a provider! How can I connect with my patient’s Stelo data?

Great question! You can have them follow the same instructions to create a Clarity account then share their data with you. Watch the video above☝️.

If you’re new to supporting CGMs and want to get a thourough rundown of how to use Clarity and set up data sharing to your practice, I’ve got 2 great resources for you beyond this video.

ONE: Watch the replay of an in-depth webinar for providers on how to support Stelo including how to help your patients share data with your clinic. You can learn more about it HERE. In principle, it’s not that difficult. But I find patients can get tripped up so I like to provide people with air-tight instructions. And there is nothing more frustrating than having a patient show up to their telehealth appt and you can’t figure out why their data isn’t sharing!😖

TWO: I sell some pretty epic Client Instruction Templates which aren’t just pretty to look at. They are thorough instructions for using all FreeStyle Libre and Dexcom Stelo CGMs in your practice and you can brand them to be your own. Use them to create your own PDF booklets and automated modules in your EMR like Practice Better. They have the exact copy and images that I use with my patients and groups and my patients love them. Check them out HERE. I tend to update them every year and send updates out for free when I do. You can see what they look like in the image below 👇. Just open them in your free Canva account and you can change the colors, images, font, and cannibalize them for parts. Virtual sticky notes remind you what needs to be changed for your practice. I’ve seen every question you could imagine for this equipment and if it can trip you up, I’ve got instructions for it.
